Persist

When a creature with persist dies without a -1/-1 counter on it, return it with a -1/-1 counter.

When a creature with persist dies without a -1/-1 counter on it, return it with a -1/-1 counter. It lets a creature come back once, which is why it pairs well with sacrifice effects.

This is a short paraphrase of the keyword from the Comprehensive Rules, not a ruling on a particular card; read the card's own text and the official rules for a tricky case.

Cards that give Persist to other permanents are listed too.
